Web designers who have created the free website templates you can find on the Internet know how important it is to project at least a semi-professional look. They know that the hard work and effort you put into attracting visitors is going to go to waste if people are turned off by the design of your website. What makes it even better is these templates, depending on where you get them from, can actually be customized. So you will not necessarily be stuck with a particular look in all cases.
Understanding each type of template will allow you to make an educated choice for your business. A flash template is a great way to show creative artwork or showcase your photos. A Cascading Style Sheet or CSS template has been designed to work on multi-platform (different devices) and on multi-browsers. This means no matter what you are viewing the web page on it will look perfect. HTML templates can give you an attractive easy to use layout that will allow you to maintain the web template to your liking. This is great for the website that needs to insert a lot of text on their page. There are also templates that are geared for creating online stores and shops to sell your products called osCommerce templates. Flash intro templates that are pre-made designs that are a great introduction to your website. Last but not least are the Flash animated templates that contain some flash and some non-flash parts. Along with the animated parts you can add buttons, banners, sound, and images. So think about what you need in a webpage and then make your choice.
I begin with the XML file as this is the file that will need to contain the instructions for Joomla to install the file, this files can become a stock standard copy and paste for the templates you construct, however if there any files that were used in the previous template and not in the new template you will need to remove them from the XML file or you will find a horrible error when you try to install the template in the backend of Joomla.
Free website templates also tend to be very search engine friendly. They also tend to be user friendly. This means people are going to be able to easily navigate your website as well as the visual elements that are on it. Search engines will be able to easily crawl the content on a website so it can get indexed and start drawing visitors. If you were to go with a professional designer or design a template yourself, then there is no guarantee it would be search engine friendly. And the changes you would have to make in order to make it so could prove time-consuming.
Upload and Install: Once you have the template on your computer, the next step is to upload it to your website. You can do this manually by logging onto your Joomla hosting account's Control Panel (from where you usually manage files, emails, check websites stats, etc. You get the point! ) You will then go the (from where you manage the files on your website), navigate to the directory where you installed Joomla, click on the folder where the Joomla templates are stored and upload the new Joomla template to the same folder.
