Paid templates have licenses also. They may restrict the template to one use per fee. It it usually stated that you may not repackage the template and sell it for yourself. The license of the paid template usually allows you to use the template and claim the design as your own. One service that I have seen sells templates under a more liberal license which gives extended uses and greater privileges. Be sure to follow the restrictions in your template's license for your own peace of mind.
Some workpieces are too small to rout safely if they are sandwiched between a workbench and template. For instance to taper legs for a coffee table you can build a template that holds the workpiece in place with toggle clamps. Guide blocks can be used to position the side and end of the leg leaving enough room behind them to clamp the template upside down to a workbench edge. To get a smooth taper, the guide blocks must be secured at the desired angle in relation to the edge of the template. As the router follows the edge, it cuts the taper angle of the blocks in the leg.
When the assignment comes to start working on your organization's Office 2010 upgrade, don't immediately reach for the installation media. Due to its ubiquity, Office upgrades come with a far bigger opportunity to impact your organization's efficiency than most other products. One of the major ways to impact the overall effectiveness of your organization is through proper template maintenance. Now don't get too excited, the work is hard from glamorous, and in many organizations requires a good dose of negotiating skills to get all of the appropriate parties on the same page. After all, most people are all for standards, as long as it is their way that is the standard.
Things only become more complicated beyond text. Your website design software may allow you to change text and move graphics and images around on the page, but it will not allow you to modify the content of the graphics or images. In most cases templates have graphical headers or graphics over images and logos that will contain similar placeholder text. This kind of "text" cannot be edited via Notepad or any other web design software because it is actually an image. Virtually every template package available today will come with large, editable graphic files in a format called "PSD." These are "PhotoShop Documents", and may only be fully edited by the industry standard Adobe Photoshop program. PhotoShop is the 500 pound gorilla of graphic design, it can do just about anything with the humble pixel. This kind of power comes with a high price tag, though. Coming in around $500-$600 street price, that's just the first investment Photoshop requires. The second is the time and effort to learn the effective use of the program. Opening a template's PSD file will likely result in a cascade of "layers" and "slices" even an experienced Photoshop hand would take time to digest.
In order to effectively edit your template beyond simply changing fonts and colors in the variable definition section, you'll need to know (or be willing to learn) some things about CSS and the Blogger XML schema. It will likely take some studying of the existing XML setup and some experimenting to make the improvements you're looking for. As you make changes, you might want to keep a backup copy of your last working template so you don't have to go back to work from the original template file if you mess something up.
Basically there are two types of templates; exclusive (copyrighted) templates and non- exclusive (non-copyrighted) templates. An exclusive template gives you ownership rights over the template whereas a non exclusive template does not give you ownership rights but only usage rights. Exclusive web templates are a bit costly and will ensure that the template is not resold to any other customer. You may use the template as your like and even resell it to other customers. A non-exclusive template on the other hand is cheaper and gives you only usage rights over the template. This means you can modify the template as per your needs but cannot resell them to a third party. Non-exclusive templates also mean that the same template can be resold by the template provider to more than one customer.
